GUIDE TO DEVOTIONAL
Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.
Psalm 119:105
PREPARE
Step One: Prepare your heart in God’s presence . . .
Find a quiet place free from distractions.
Observe a moment of silence as you acknowledge God’s presence.
Ask God to speak to you: God, show me what you want me to know through your life-giving Word today . . .
Open your heart and mind and expect that God will speak specifically into your life.

READ

Step Two: READ . . .
Take your time to read and meditate on the Scripture passage for the day.
First Reading: Enter.
In your first reading, simply "enter in" or familiarize yourself with what God is saying here. Notice the circumstances, people, places, etc. (Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?). Notice/write down what it is saying; what is happening.

HEAR

Step Three: HEAR . . .
Second Reading: Impress
In your second reading of the same passage, notice what word, phrase, sentence or verse makes an "impression" on you. Pause and mull over these words and phrases. Write out the Scripture verse(s) Holy Spirit highlights to you.
Third Reading: Pray
As you read this passage of Scripture for the third time, be prayerfully interacting with God about the text, listening to what He wants you to know. Ask God to show you how He wants you to live based on this Scripture:
Is there something He would want you to start doing/stop doing/continue doing?
Is there a command to obey, a sin to avoid, an example to follow, a promise to claim, a principle to live out?

OBEY

Step Four: OBEY . . .
Make a commitment to do what He tells you. Truth is powerless unless applied. Write how what you’ve read applies to your life.
Bring your heartfelt response to God in prayer, asking Him to help you apply what He has revealed to you.
